The look of a majestic oak or maple on the golf course is certainly a beautiful sight. This tree on #17, in my opinion, is the most spectacular tree on the property. It is a perfectly shaped, healthy specimen tree that is surely several hundred years old.
On the flip side are the trees between #7/8 and #8/9. These trees are crowded and growing in different directions because they are all competing for sunlight. Their root systems are also intertwined to the point they also compete for nutrients. The result is non-specimen, oddly shaped trees that will never reach their potential. A solution to this is to thin the small, odd shaped trees out to allow for the healthier trees to become more of the majestic tree like that on #17. In turn, this also benefits the turf as well. This isn't a drastic change (or even a noticeable one at that) but I had several members ask me what we were working on.
We have a tree climber on site today who is working on removing the "sucker growth" off of the trees around the clubhouse and croquet courts. This is a small detail that gives these trees a much more grand appearance.
