Hooded Mergansers

We currently have 17 Hooded Mergansers on the Lake.  It is a pretty duck...similar habits to a wood duck.  It is always neat seeing different species of birds on the lake.  Before you know it, the barn swallows will be back!

Closeup of a male Hooded Merganser.  The females are less colorful and mainly brown in color.  This keeps them camouflaged while they nest with eggs/ young.  As with most bird species, the males tend to be the more colorful of the two.
