Annual Bluegrass Weevil (ABW)

We recently discovered Annual Bluegrass Weevil (ABW) damage on the 1st fairway (left hand side). This is an insect that is relatively new to the Highlands Plateau and very destructive to Poa annua. This morning we made the chemical application for control. This insect has a piercing mouth the sucks the life out of Poa annua. The result is thinning turf that is difficult to diagnose because it looks a lot like wilt. While I am by no means supporting climate change, it is amazing the turf problems in the area we worry about now compared to 10 years ago. For example, white grubs, crabgrass, various Pythium fungi, ABW, armyworms etc were all non issues 10 years ago. It used to be that the disease, Dollar Spot, was our main pest.
