This morning we were paid a visit by USGA Agronomist, Jordan Booth. Jordan asked to visit to receive feedback on a new device the USGA is developing. This device, which I wasn't allowed to photograph, quantifies the smoothness, trueness and speed of a putting green. Smoothness refers to the up and down motion a golf ball is subjected to as it rolls across a green. Trueness on the other hand, refers to any side to side movement of a golf ball. Interestingly, on a scale of 0-5, our greens measured 0.1. Zero means perfectly true and 5 meaning least true. This is one of the lowest readings he's seen throughout the early stages of testing. Once this technology becomes available, I'll be able to show you photos and provide details of how the device works.
