Tuesday, the croquet lawns were aerated again with 1/4" tines and topdressed. This is a continual effort to firm up the lawns that are naturally soft due to the fact they were sodded, not seeded at construction. It also aids in leveling the surfaces. The croquet lawns are getting non-stop usage and are suffering from wear and tear. Aerification is also good at stimulating new growth in these worn areas, helping the turf recover. The nature of croquet is equivalent of a season of golf being played to one single hole location. Of course, you would expect to see severe thinning if that were the case in golf.
