Snow Mold Application

Yesterday and today we performed our annual preventative snow mold application. This turf fungus forms circular, dead patches of grass visible after the snow melts.  Snow mold can occur in both gray and pink varieties.  Both can cause damage going into spring if the turf is not treated.  We also make another application later in the winter season to assure no damage on our tees and greens.  Above is a picture of how we make our spray applications.  Using a spray hawk, walking reduces the traffic of a sprayer, in turn resulting in healthier turf.  Below is a picture of what active snow mold would resemble on a stand of grass.  Snow cover is not required for pink snow mold but is for gray snow mold.
