Boxwood FACT:
Penn State did a study years ago that determined that a person typically likes or dislike boxwoods based on childhood memories. Why??? Boxwoods have a distinct smell that some like or don't like. It is a plant that has been around forever and is very slow growing, living a long time. Many adults associate the smell with visits to grandparents homes as children. If you came from a happy family, you associate the smell with good times and tend to appreciate the shrub. If you recall visiting with dysfunctional grandparents, the smell may lead you to plant something else! Strange but true! Think about that next time you smell the distinct odor on a humid summer day.
